Recreating the Handmade Look for less!

24 Jun

This week I’ve been working on a theme trying to create a printed invitation that has the look of a handmade invitation!

It’s a great way to save money on your wedding stationery.  Anyway, below is my take on a navy and lime theme with a vellum effect overlay.  The jewel at the top in the centre is meant to be holding the ‘vellum’ in place (on the handmade version this section with the printing on would swing freely).

Navy & Lime Wedding Invitation

As always I would welcome your comments on this one.

New Baby!

19 Jun
This week I have been working on a card for my brother and sister-in-law who had their 2nd baby on Monday.  A second girl to add to their family.

As we knew what to expect – a girl – and on which date – 14th June – I already had some ideas about what I wanted to do.  In fact I had already made a  design for some wedding invitation samples which I wanted to use in a different way.  Also, whilst I know that pink is a favourite for little girls, I’m not a great fan and wanted to do something a little bit different.

Front & back of the card

If you’ve looked at my Weddings gallery you will already be familiar with much of the design as it is based on one that I have used on some samples there.  It is simple, but feminine and the heart feature is perfect for placing the new baby’s name in.  I also added some butterfly silhouettes.  My 4 yr old son, when asked what he thought, said that he thought the butterfly on the front wasn’t finished because it didn’t have any colour on it … mmmm, he may have a point there, but it’s too late now!

To make the final card I printed out the front and back of the card onto quality matt photo paper, cut them out and stuck them onto some purple card stock which was folded down the centre.  I also printed out an inside page with a greeting and a repeat of the single flower motif.  The inside section was glued with a thin strip to one side of the card and then I tied a coordinating ribbon around the centre of the card.  I added a few crystal embellishments and the result you can see here.

The finished product

You may also have noticed that I made an envelope to go with the card.  So by the time my nieces family have received all their specially designed goods they will be well and truly floraled out!! :-)   But I enjoyed doing it!

By the way, I’m working on a new online shop where you will be able to use my designs and personalise them to your requirements so keep checking back on the website for more information on that.

All the best

Stylish Stripes Options

Classic Stripes Colour/Button Options

Following on from last week’s Stylish Black & White invitation I thought it might be a good idea to show how designs can be altered to suit the client’s colour requirements and also the occasion.

Taking the Stylish Black & White invitation I have changed the base colour from black to a variety of other shades.  I have also changed the silhouette in the button which can change the whole feel of the invitation.  For example a bride and groom in the button makes it suitable for a wedding or engagement.

So once again I would like to remind you that all my designs are adaptable.  If you like the feel of one of them but think it isn’t quite right for your event, call me or e-mail me and we’ll work out an adaptation.

Take care all!

Kids Sports Party Invite

Sports Party Invite

A friend of mine recently asked me to design an invitation for her childrens upcoming birthday party.  The party has an active theme and she wanted something to reflect that.  As I know both the children coming up with something to suit the party and the kids was not too difficult!  They are both keen tennis players and the boy has recently discovered a talent for basketball.

I divided the invite into two distinct sections and drew a tennis court on one side and a basketball court on the other.  Inserted a couple of fun clip art characters and added some extra sparkle to give the invite a bit more ‘fun’.  A couple of appropriate ‘sporty’ type words and the design was complete.

As an extra embellishment you could always add some glitter glue after printing.

Hope you have a fun party guys!

Black & White Stripes

This week I have been working on a design for grown ups.

I’ve been working with black and white – prompted by a challenge on a forum I participate in.  The design you see here would work really well for a cocktail party or perhaps an ‘Ebony & Ivory’ ball!  I love black and white because it always looks so sophisticated.

The straight lines on this invitation give it a sleek and elegant look perfect for that extra special grown up occasion.  I’ve also designed a name tag which could be used for labeling party favours or could be tarted up with a black ribbon or rope and tied to the wine glass of the guest as a place name.  A variation of the black stripe & picture could be used as a napkin holder and the design could also be developed to include a menu or even a cocktail list.  The options are endless!

I’m also working on some other black and white styles so keep checking back for more!

Enjoy your party planning!
